first quilt (...still has the safety pins in it)

Quilt books inspire me so much, with their color palettes and block patterns and historical significance; I mean, what's a costume girl not to like?

So in some fit of inspiration during Fall of 2005, I start making quilt squares. Sometime in Late Summer 2006, in another fit of inspiration, I spend hours arranging the squares, decide I need more, and start cutting fabric again. When the second batch of squares are finished circa Winter 2006, I arrange them anew.

They finally got sewn together in the finished arrangement with muslin sashing, and I decide the quilt is going to encase one of the several down blankets we've accumulated. Lord only knows how, since it's not like we're in the Arctic Circle here in SF, but we have three. So the quilt gets a white sheet as a back and is sewn together around the edges, and the down blanket stuffed in, sometime in Spring 2007. Then it gets tricky and the inspiration goes out the window.

As brilliant as quilting feet are for batting, let's just say they're not meant to quilt down feathers. Yeah, not so much. So, since no fourth fit of inspiration has hit me, it lies on our bed, looking bright & gorgeous, and still "quilted" together with random safety pins. If there isn't a more pathetic WIP, I just don't know. I am very, very in love with how the colors and the star blocks are very, very me. I should honestly just take the safety pins out, since it is sewn together around the edges, and the down feathers need to fluff around a lot anyway, right? OK, we'll see if I can muster some Safety Pin Removal Inspiration before the thing starts to get little rust holes around them.

3/21/15 update: Safety pins were removed, quilt still adorns our bed, without any additional quilting stitches.  Apparently, piecing together duvet tops is my preferred method of quilting.
