chromophilia

lily colors

We were walking to Dolores Park for the Soap Box Derby and I spotted this little color moment. They were blooming right by Cafe Flore, which seemed apropos.

My favorite class in college ended up being a color theory class, delightfully called Chromophilia, a play on words from a book called Chromophobia by David Batchelor - all about how Modernism loves white, white, white and how we have this Western aversion to color "contaminating" things. One of the best assignments in class was to carry a camera with us all semester and take photos of "color moments" - when three red cars parked next to each other, when all your toiletry bottles happen to coordinate, things like that.
