ncd - notebook collage disorder
Confession: I clip magazines into tiny little pictures and glue them into notebooks. For hours on end. In what is now many, many, many notebooks and the occasional binder. Like 12 years worth.
Every time I go home, I make sure that my mom has saved all her magazines since the last time I visited. Every morning, I have breakfast & a cup of tea and shred magazines. When I was in High School, I used to clip them up at night while we all watched TV together, but the sound of the page ripping (shRRRRRRR, shRRRRRUP) would drive my dad crazy. My sister got me a half dozen fancy fashion magazines with little scissors and a special retractable Ex-acto knife for Christmas one year. Best present ever.
Then I found out in college that fashion designers pin pictures to the walls of their studios each season, collecting inspiring images & colors; they're called a "mood boards". My costume professor gave me an article from the NY Times about it. I though, "Oh my gosh! I'm not crazy! I'm inherently gifted!"
Then, of course, I cut out the article and glued it into one of my notebooks. Where I now have like whole sections of pictures of other designer's collections of pictures. Maybe a bit crazy.
