I've decided nearly every little table or flat surface in the apt can use a placemat. They brighten things up, add a little cushion and catch all the watering can and candlewax drips that accumulate. Plus then you can lovingly gaze at the beautiful fabric scraps you've accumulated without just strewing them about the house. Boyfriends don't really like that look. But they are impressed by your placemat-making skills.
